James Cooper Mansion - Moving History

On September 25, 2008, James Cooper Mansion made Canadian history as the heaviest move of a building. Estimated at well over 800 tonnes, the 126 year old building was moved by Canadian legendary mover, Laurie McCulloch. The building moved 20 feet to the west to allow for excavation of the parking garage and the Mansion's permanent slab. By year's end the Mansion will be pushed eastward toward Sherbourne street to rest on the slab. After completion of the 32 storey condominium tower to the rear, the Mansion will undergo renovations to serve as the condominium tower residents' new lifestyle amenities and common area. Homeowners will enjoy the most unique condominium recreational facility in Toronto. The Republic - Outstanding High-rise Building of the Year

Tridel's two awards - most outstanding high-rise building and high-rise project of the year - both came for its Republic of Yonge and Eglinton building in Toronto. All suites in the project were certified under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. Used in their construction were materials such as low-volatile organic compound paints and carpeting to minimize off-gassing, environmentally friendly hardwood flooring, energy-efficient windows, Energy Star appliances, water-conservation fixtures, and high-performance ventilation systems.
